Cricket's three formats and popular tournaments
T20, ODI and Test — each format has its own pace and character. You can bet on all three at bengel.
T20 — the fast-paced format with the most betting activity
In T20, the game can change on any ball, making live betting the most popular in this format. BPL (Bangladesh Premier League), IPL and the ICC T20 World Cup are the three tournaments that draw the most interest from Bangladeshi fans.
In ODI or one-day matches, the 50-over game offers more strategic betting markets — odds shift before and after the innings break. In Test cricket, weather, pitch conditions and team form play a major role over five days; a draw is a valid result in this format, so the betting markets work somewhat differently.
T20
Matches of up to 20 overs. BPL, IPL and the T20 World Cup see the most betting action. Results come quickly.
ODI
A 50-over match with two innings — odds can shift dramatically in between. The ICC Champions Trophy and World Cup are played in this format.
Test
A draw is a normal result in five-day cricket. Pitch and weather are important factors in betting. Preferred by experienced bettors.
Bet on other sports alongside cricket
At bengel, you can bet not only on cricket but also on football and other sports.
After cricket, football has the largest following in Bangladesh. You can bet on World Cup and UEFA Champions League matches. There are some fundamental differences between cricket and football betting. In a T20 cricket match, odds can change on every ball, whereas in football the biggest shifts happen when a goal is scored. While weather and pitch conditions carry great weight in cricket, team form and home advantage matter more in football.
Beyond these, tennis, badminton and kabaddi each have their own separate betting markets. Just as the innings break creates a natural pause in cricket, each set in tennis offers its own betting opportunity. bengel brings together markets for various sports in one place, though this page focuses mainly on cricket.

Popular betting markets — how each one works
In cricket, you can bet on much more than just the match winner.
Match Winner
The simplest market — bet on which team will win the match. Example: if you bet on Team A to win and they do, you receive a return based on the set odds.
All FormatsToss Bet
Which team will win the toss — this is completely separate from the match result. The toss outcome is decided before the match begins, so this bet settles quickly.
T20 · ODI · TestTop Batsman
A bet on which batter within a team will score the most runs. It is not about the team's total runs — only one specific batter's performance counts.
ODI · TestTotal Runs (Over/Under)
Will the total runs in the match be more (Over) or fewer (Under) than a set number — in this straightforward market you simply pick one of the two.
T20 · ODIWhen Will the First Wicket Fall
At how many runs will the first wicket fall in the innings — a target range is given and the bet wins if the first wicket falls within that range.
T20 · ODIMulti Bet
Combine bets from multiple matches into a single combined bet. If all selections are correct the return is much higher, but if any one of them is wrong the entire bet loses.
All SportsHandicap Bet: When there is a large gap between two teams, the weaker team is given a head start (for example, a 2.5-run handicap). The bet wins if the weaker team wins by that margin or the scores are level — the outcome is described in words; no specific stake or return example is given here.
Over/Under Example: In the Over/Under market for Team A's total runs set at 165 — if Team A scores more than 165, the Over bet wins; if they score fewer, the Under bet wins. The result is settled once Team A's innings ends.
How to read odds — three formats
The same odds can be written in three different formats — Decimal, Fractional and American. The examples below explain how.
| Format | Team A to win | Team B to win (favourite) |
|---|---|---|
| Decimal | 2.50 | 1.25 |
| Fractional | 3/2 | 1/4 |
| American | +150 | -400 |
Example 1 — Team A to win (৳500 stake):
Decimal 2.50 = Fractional 3/2 = American +150 — the same odds written three ways.
If Team A wins, return is ৳1,250 (৳750 profit + ৳500 stake).
If Team A loses, the ৳500 stake is lost.
Example 2 — Team B to win, favourite (৳500 stake):
Decimal 1.25 = Fractional 1/4 = American -400.
A minus figure in American odds shows how much you need to stake to make ৳100 profit — here it is ৳400.
If Team B wins, return is ৳625 (৳125 profit + ৳500 stake).
Multi Bet Return
You pick 3 matches with odds of 1.40, 1.50 and 1.80 respectively.
Combined odds: 1.40 × 1.50 × 1.80 = 3.78 (rounded).
On a ৳100 stake the return is ৳378 — but all three selections must be correct to receive this return.
If any one of them loses, the entire ৳100 stake is lost.
The potential return on a Multi Bet is higher, so the risk is also higher. Betting is for entertainment — it should not be treated as a source of income.
Live Betting — odds change with every wicket
Pre-match betting is where you place a bet before the match starts; live or in-play betting is a completely different experience. While the match is going on, the odds update instantly after every wicket, every six and every dot ball.
Say Team A loses 2 wickets in the first over — at that moment Team B's odds of winning will shorten and Team A's odds will lengthen. You can use this shift to place a new bet or cash out an existing one.
In live betting, there is less time to decide — markets suspend and reopen quickly. The biggest changes in live odds tend to come after the powerplay in T20, after the first innings in ODI, and after each session in Test cricket.
Keep in mind: While a live market is suspended, bets are not accepted — this happens especially during no-balls, reviews or rain breaks.
Practical tips for cricket betting
Betting is for enjoyment — keeping the following points in mind will make the experience better.
Set a fixed budget
Decide in advance how much you will put in for each session. Once that amount is spent, it is better to stop betting — chasing losses in a hurry can lead to bigger losses.
Understand the format before you bet
In T20 and ODI, one batter's innings can change the entire result for the team. In Test cricket, pitch and weather conditions shift from day to day. Choosing markets that suit each format is the smarter approach.
Understand how odds work
Decimal, Fractional and American — all three formats carry the same information. Go over the two examples above more than once. Once you can work out the return in your head, betting becomes much more straightforward.
Be careful with Multi Bets
Even though a Multi Bet shows a higher return, the chance of all selections being correct is low. If you are new, start with one or two bets.
Bet responsibly
Betting is a form of entertainment. If you ever feel it is going out of control, read the guidelines on the responsible gaming page and take a break if needed.
Know the rules
It is worth reading the terms and conditions beforehand to understand what happens to your bet if a match is abandoned due to rain or the result is decided by the D/L method.
Betting Exchange — understanding Back and Lay
Unlike a traditional bookmaker, on an exchange you bet against other bettors.
Exchange betting has two roles — Back and Lay. BACK means betting on a team to win (like regular betting). LAY means betting on a team to lose — in other words, you are taking the other side of someone else's Back bet.
Example (Decimal 2.00):
BACK Team A — ৳1,000 stake: if Team A wins, ৳1,000 profit (before commission); if they lose, ৳1,000 is lost.
LAY Team A — against a bettor's ৳1,000 stake: if Team A does not win, ৳1,000 profit (before commission); if Team A wins, you must pay out ৳1,000 (৳1,000 × 1.00 liability).
Commission is deducted from winnings on an exchange. Exchange betting is most active in T20 matches because the odds change frequently.
